Care Of Orchids – What Should You Feed Them?

Properly fertilizing your orchids is vital to their success. And, if you’ve ever fed plants, you’ve probably guessed that these nutrients consist of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium – the same nutrients any plant needs. Orchids take these nutrients in a particular ratio.

Fertilizers are usually labeled with things like 30-10-10 or 20-20-20 – but what does that mean? These markings are nothing more than an indicator of the ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in the mixture. Of course, you need to know which one to use for proper care of orchids.

Which mixture should you feed your orchids? If you have potted orchids, use a 20-20-20 mixture. But if your orchids grow on bark, they might need a 30-10-10. But you must remember not to over fertilize and when fall comes around, knock the mixture back to 10-30-20.
