If you are dealing with a company that you have been dealing with for a long time, like your phone provider or your electric company, you are pretty safe doing checks by phone with them. They will usually just do the one check and the amount will match what you ask them to take out. There are some companies though, that will take advantage of you. When you do checks by phone with them, they have your information, and if you are late on a payment, they may take out what they want without warning you first. This can lead to a lot of problems and a lot of bounced check fees.
