Mission Style Decorating For The Kitchen

Today we are seeing a nostalgia for days gone by which explains whey certain decorating styles, such as the mission style, are seeing such a big comeback. Here are some tips on mission style decorating for the kitchen:

1. The mission style is characterized by warm oak so you want to be sure to have oak for your tables and chairs as well as any bakers racks or other furniture.
2. This style is also famous for it’s clean lines, so you want to stay away from Victorian furniture that is rather ornate and stick with the simple lines of the mission era.
3. Mission accessories should be hand hammered copper – for the kitchen use bowls, pitchers and plates with a hand hammered look and an antique patina.
4. If you want your furniture and accessories to go up in value, collect pieces from some of the finest makers of the era such as Stickley and Roycroft.
