How To Make Your Own Candle

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

I have posted a new article in my candle making web site.

The article is about how candle making crafts is a good learning experience for older children and adults alike.

In order to start this hobby, it is advisable to first enroll in candle making classes where a student will be taught everything one needs to know – from selecting the right candle making molds to the kind of candles that one can produce from their candle making crafts. Second, find a good source or store who can supply you with all the needed supplies and equipment for candle making including candle making molds, waxes and wicks. Aside from those earlier mentioned, the stores must also have a selection of colors, fragrance and decorations to choose from, though some of the materials can be created by the candle maker or hobbyist.

If you want to learn more about candle making, please visit my site and read the article.

Showing Your Love Through Wedding Scrapbooking

Friday, January 15th, 2010

If one of your close friends or loved ones are getting married, wedding scrapbooking for them might just as well be your best way of giving them your blessing and love. Making scrapbooks is one of the most ideal and sweetest ways of remembering a special time in one’s life. And what could be as memorable as a wedding?

Wedding scrapbooking is a great gift that you can show the people you love that you love them because you will be making it yourself. Putting effort in a gift will add value to it. All your efforts will also be rewarded knowing that your gift is something that your loved ones will surely be treasuring for the rest of their lives.

When you freeze important and special moments in your life, you capture a moment that you will be able to remember forever. Scrapbooks are one of those special things that will help you treasure memories that you will have fun looking back when you grow old. Weddings are one of the most special events that anyone could have, and what better way to capture the many memories in these events than in scrapbooks?

Scrapbooks can be very personal and intimate. If you have a knack at designing and are pretty good in the arts and crafts, wedding scrapbooking is perfect for you. Make sure that when designing the scrapbook, you make every page distinctive and personal. It may take quite some time to make everything right, but the reactions that you will be getting from your loved ones will all be worth it.

There are many things that you should take note of while making the perfect wedding scrapbook. One is that every page should have different perspectives of the wedding. Official wedding photographers take lovely pictures which you can use, but these photos are often at only one perspective. Make sure that you also bring a camera so you will be featuring photos of different perspectives in your scrapbook.

Another way of getting different perspectives is to ask your friends who are also attending the wedding to take photographs during the event. Not only will you be provided with enough perspective for your scrapbook, you will also have many photos to choose from.

Another thing that will be great to include while in your wedding scrapbook are quotes from close friends and family. You can make the gift more special by keeping a log of memories and different pieces of advice that the bride and groom’s friends and family have to offer. Including them in the scrapbook will make it more memorable and personal. You can either collect these quotes personally or you can ask someone to collect messages for you.

Different memorabilia from the event are also great elements to add in wedding scrapbooking. By including keepsakes and other things taken from the day itself, you will bring back joyful memories that may have otherwise been overlooked and eventually forgotten. Memorabilia from the wedding include flower petals, arrangements, invitations, place cards, napkins and many others.

The Advantages Of A Mobile Photography Studio

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

Just what makes a photography Studio?
You don’t need to bring everything and the kitchen sink along to your next portrait gig. You do need a van, truck or at least a station wagon filled with lighting equipment, extension cords, extra batteries, different colored background drapes or cloths, a tripod, some reflective umbrellas or cards to help with your lighting and a vast array of props. Usually, adults don’t need any more props than a chair. But pets and kids need some squeaky toys to get their attention, at least. And, of course, you need a camera or two.

What Makes A Photography Gallery Special

Friday, December 4th, 2009

The images selected to hang in a photography gallery aren’t just interesting compositions or shapes. They might be entirely what you think a bad picture would be. Images in Photography galleries can be blurred, unfocused, off-center or poorly lit. But the images in a photography gallery not only show the story of what that image is about and, most tellingly, they tell the story of the photographer behind the lens.

Are You Thinking About Taking Art Courses? – Tips for Beginners

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

So you are just about to start your journey into the fascinating world of art and are thinking about taking a painting course? Like most new skills, it can be a little confusing at the beginning knowing exactly where and how to start, particularly if you don’t have someone to help guide you through the initial stages]. This article will hopefully provide you with a few tips and ideas to get you started.

Organizing Your Painting Studio
When you first start to learn to paint, you will more than likely not have the use of a professional art studio, however you should try and create a productive environment around you where you can concentrate on the job in hand and relax! Most importantly, try and find a space in your home that is free from noise and distraction. That’s not always easy I know! At least set up your art studio where you will not be constantly disturbed.

Lighting
If you can, find a room in your home that has some space and plenty of natural sunlight. A Conservatory is a great place to start, or a room that has lots of windows. If you can’t find any natural sunlight, you will have to use artificial light. There are special bulbs called “Full Spectrum”, that are made to emulate natural sunlight. They do a descent job in providing the correct lighting, but nothing compares to natural light.

Painting Brushes
As with paint colours, selecting your paint brush is purely a matter of personal choice. I have experimented over the years with numerous different brush types and mainly opt to use flats and filberts of various sizes. My paint brush selection mainly consists of No.2, No.5, and No.10 Filberts and No2, No5, and No10 Flats, which are all made from hog hair, which is very strong, flexible and great to use with oil paints.

Paint Palette

You will see every artist using one of these if you are not familiar with the term! The paint palette is basically the surface that you will use to layout and mix all your colors on. There are a variety of different palettes available. They can be made from plastic, glass or wood and come in a variety of sizes. I usually use a palette made from wood, however you will need to seal it first as the wood is porous. This is extremely easy to do. All you need is some mineral oil or linseed oil and then wipe the surface of your palette to coat the surface. Remove any excess oil and you’re ready to go!

Also Enjoy The Site Of Oriental Wool Rug

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

The inside was likewise sparse, and there was nothing particularly remarkable about the place. Nonetheless, we did great business. The reason was that we were in a part of town that was usually reserved for upscale bars and pubs. People who wanted a more simple drinking experience would go with us instead. The lack of bar signs conveyed the impression that, unlike many of the pubs around there, without oriental wool rug, we were a down-to-earth place. You didn’t have to dress up to go to this bar, and as such they became quite a niche market for casual drinkers.

A gift basket or floral arrangement are the most obvious Thanksgiving centerpieces. As long as you take the season or the event into consideration, they work for almost any type of table. You should go with the traditional fall colors, if you are working on a centerpiece that is for the fall or for Thanksgiving. Observe the trees in your neighborhood, try to incorporate colors in that you see in nature. The colors to keep in mind are yellow, brown, orange, red and all of their hues. If you do this you will end up with an arrangement that has everyone thinking about Thanksgiving and the Fall season.

For Yor Kids Halloween Party, Turn Your Yard Into A Cemetery With Some Spooky Halloween Tombstone Decorations!

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

I’ve just published an article on my site about Halloween tombstones as decorations and why I feel that they are a really great addition to any kids spooky Halloween party! They can look really authentic and realistic and if you have some placed in your front yard going up to the front door, plus on your lawn, it will make it look like a small cemetery – they can look quite freaky and scary.

As I mentioned in my article, you can easily buy some Halloween tombstones online, but the other option is to make your own, (if you have the time!). If you do make your own tombstones, (and as you will see on the video, it’s really quite easy – you could get your kids to help you and make it a fun Halloween activity), you then have the added bonus of deciding what is written on the tombstones. You can make the epitaph funny or scary, whatever you like.

Head on over to my site, watch the “how-to” video for making the tombstones and this year go that one step beyond dressing up your kids in scary, spooky Halloween costumes, and dress up your home and yard as well for Halloween!!

The long tradition of Halloween is still fascinating to adults and children alike. It’s the time for scary stories, dressing up and trick or treat. There are many different Halloween books that look at various aspects of the celebration. One of the most comprehensive of these is The Halloween Encyclopedia, compiled by Lisa Morton. The illustrated book explores folk customs from around the world and the associated rituals and artifacts. Popular culture features in a list of literature and movies, dating from 1714-2001.

Famous authors, such as Edgar Allan Poe, H.P Lovecraft and James Joyce contribute to A Halloween Reader: Poems, Stories, And Plays from Halloweens Past. The compilation is edited by Lesley Pratt Bannatyne. Halloween books also feature food, which is one of the most important ingredients at the witching hour. There are lots of recipes to choose from, including traditional Pumpkin Pie and Toffee Apples. The kids will love gingerbread, popcorn and marshmallows and everything can be washed down with Pumpkin Punch. Halloween can be a chilly affair and there is a recipe for a hearty soup, namely Butternut Squash and Pumpkin Soup with grated Ginger and Dried Chili.

The Beauty Of Engineering Drawings

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

A lot of people think of engineering drawing as something tedious and mechanical. Parts of it are, but there is a certain beauty to it that a lot of folks don’t get the chance to see. It isn’t just a matter of plugging numbers into a computer and getting out an engineering drawing. Everything must fit together in a certain way, but there is always room for elegance of design. It is strange to me that engineers are so much less glamorous than architects. Architectural drawings are very similar to engineering drawings. The same concerns go into them. On the one hand, you want something solid and structurally well put together, but on the other hand you want something beautiful and elegant.

Portrait Photography Tips That Will Add Extra Flair to Your Images

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

There are portrait photography tips you can use to help correct issues with the subjects of your portraits. If the subject has a round or fat face, try posing them three-fourths to the camera, using short lighting, and slightly raising the camera angle. Pose models with thin faces facing the camera. If your subject has deep lines or wrinkles, try using softer, frontal lighting. Sometimes scars and blemishes can be concealed by repositioning the subject to shadow the problem areas. When blinking is a problem, try to time your shots to right after the subject blinks. You can compensate for deep set eyes by directing light into the eyes. A bigger nose can be obscured by posing nose straight into lens or raising the chin, whereas a small nose should be positioned at an angle to the camera. Multiple chins can be concealed by having the subject lean their head toward the camera and stretching their neck.

Choosing the Right Portrait Photographer

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

When you get in touch with a portrait studio, the first question you should ask is how long they have been in business. Portrait Photographers should have several years of experience. They should also have all of the equipment needed to produce the quality portraits you would expect from a professional, including flashes, lighting, corrective airbrush technology, clothing, make-up and hair stylists, and props. They should have everything you need to create memorable portraits that can be treasured by generations to come. Some people expect more than just lights and posing from the photography studio; they want a professional make-up artist and hair stylist to glamorize and enhance their appearance. A studio that can provide make-up and hair styles, and clothing like dresses and costumes, can create extraordinary portraits that truly stand out from the rest.

10 Must See Museums In America

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

de Young Museum, San Francisco

The oldest version of the most favorite museum in San Francisco was irreparably damaged by the earthquake of 1989. The newest incarnation of de Young beautifully incorporates a new museum’s striking façade to Golden Gate Park scenery. The façade was made of perforated copper and has already started to turn shades of green and brown to perfectly blend with its Golden Gate Park surroundings. The eclectic collection of the museum includes vast holdings of art and the arts from the Americas, Oceania and Africa, including works by American masters Sargent, Homer and O’Keeffe. The 144-foot tower provides stunning views of the Richmond and Sunset neighborhoods of San Francisco.
