Cake Decorating Techniques

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

I have just attended a nightclass in cake decoration and until I went I had no idea how many cake decorating techniques there were. I always thought that decorating a cake was a pretty simple affair. When I was growing up, my mother loved to make cakes. She showed me a couple of simple designs that you can use on a cake, and I copied her designs faithfully. I can make flowers, swirls, little ice cream cones, and of course all the letters in the alphabet. I was not the most artistic cake decorator, but I knew enough to make a pretty professional looking cake.

Oil Paintings And Prints Inspired By The Canary Islands

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

What is an artist supposed to do, who lives on a remote island somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean. Right, start a Web site and shoe the artwork to the entire World nonetheless.

That’s what Elandria, who lives on the beautiful Canary Islands just did. She started her first Web site Elandria.com.

Her passion are Oil Paintings, but they are not too easy to ship, and actually quite expensive. To avoid all those issues with customs, and other shipping related issues, Elandria has decided to hook up with Imagekind.com. Those guys can make excellent, high quality prints and they do framing, too.

If you want to see beautiful seascapes, landscapes, flowers, and forests, go to Elandria.com now.

Right now there is actually also a short YouTube video, “Introducing Elandria”.

Wooden Purse Handles

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

They have them in plastic, wood, bamboo and they come in a wide variety of colors. Once you have made your bag you simply attach the handles to it. She said that you can use them on cloth bags as well as yarn bags. They also come in a variety of lengths so you can use them as a clutch style or and over the shoulder bag. She told me which store she thought had the greatest selection as well as the best prices. She also told me that she goes to second hand stores to check out the purses. She said many times you can buy a purse for under a dollar and then she recycles parts of it for the handbags that she makes. I was very glad that she stopped to talk to me. She had some great ideas and tips that she was willing to share.

Collage Picture Frames

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

I like to commemorate family events and I always take lots of pictures. Often times I use scrapbooks to preserve these memories. However, they can be very time consuming to do and despite all your hard work guests may still not pick them up to take a look. An alternative to the time and effort a scrapbook requires is using collage picture frames to hold family memories. This has worked out well for me, and it can be a great gift to give when you just aren’t sure what to get.

I buy large collage picture frames each time we have a new occasion that I wish to remember in detail. I choose among the pictures for the very best ones, and those are the ones I print out on my computer or have done at the local photo shop. I put them in the collage picture frames and then I add anything else that might pertain to the event. This might be something like ticket stubs from a show or any keepsake from a vacation. It’s not possible to do for every event, but I always do it for the very special occasions. That way everyone can see our special memories right there on the wall or shelf. With a scrapbook, sometimes they just never get opened…

Camera Retailers

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

When you buy refurbished cameras online, you never know how long they will last. Maybe you’ll get lucky, but then again maybe you’ll be out of luck, with no warranty to cover it. Although they have come down in price recently, new cameras are still expensive. The key to getting a good deal is finding a good camera retailer

Photographic Galleries

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

When I was growing up, going to an art gallery opening used to be a big production. My parents were both big art buffs, and they loved going to art galleries downtown. We would always have to dress up, even if it was not a particularly special events. We would put on our good clothes, go check out a photography gallery, or a showing of someone’s paintings, and then spend the afternoon wandering among the various shops. It was a lot of fun, but it also seemed to use up a lot of time.

Flower Centerpieces

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

One of the biggest mistakes people make when creating flower centerpieces is that they make them too high for guest to visit across the table. The table decorations should never impede the flow of conversation. If one of your guests has given you a vase, use it to arrange the flowers. Remember that flower centerpieces do not have to be arranged in vases. Be creative in what you arrange the flowers in. I use flower frogs, which are round metal or glass discs that have holes in them to stick flower stems into. They can convert any bowl into a flower container. If your do not have a frog you can use florist foam which comes in large pieces that you cut to the size you need.

It’s Hard To Beat A Singer Sewing Machine

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

Singer has always been the first name in sewing machines. They’ve always made a quality product at an affordable price. I have a recent model that gives me all I need to craft and sew up to and beyond my skill level.

I have as much room to grow with my machine as I’ll ever need. I also like to look at the older and antique machines online and in person when I get the chance. It’s so fascinating to see how the singer sewing machines have progressed over the years. Read the whole article on my experience with a singer sewing machine.

Bamboo Purse Handles

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

The beaded stick handles are a little more challenging but still pretty easy compared to using material to create handles for your purse. Material has to be measured precisely and sewn from one end to the other to complete the project. Bamboo purse handles simply need to be attached to the handbag.

The bamboo purse handles are perfect for casual, understated handbags because the natural materials are at ease with a laid back style. These purses are appropriate for just about any daily errand or a casual luncheon. The neutral colors of the natural material make for a very handy handbag.

A David Copperfield Card Trick Is The Work Of The Master

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

David Copperfield is probably the most famous magician alive today and probably one of the most brilliant magicians in history. He often performs in shows that attract thousands of people willing to pay very high prices for the tickets to his shows. David Copperfield was always attracted to magic, and he began at a very young age to develop fantastic stunts to mesmerize his audiences. He has even taught magic at the university level. Copperfield is more than a magician. In the advertisements for his shows, he is often called an illusionist rather than a magician. The audiences that go to the shows usually find that he is even more than an illusionist and a magician. He is a performer and a storyteller as well.

This season make your own Christmas gift baskets

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

If you are sick of being stuck in the mall all night looking for a perfect gift for someone you care about give it a miss instead this year. Why not try something different this Christmas and give people you care about a Christmas gift basket that you have taken the time to personalise for them. There are so many things that you can put in a Christmas gift basket that you are only limited by your imagination. I love to have a “theme” for my Christmas Gift baskets that is personal to the person that will be receiving my gift. For example; if I am giving a basket to someone who loves to cook I might make my basket “theme” baking. In my Christmas gift basket I will put great things that bakers love like my favourite recipes, tips and tricks, cute cookie cutters and decorations for biscuits and cakes. I know by spending the extra time developing a “theme” for my Christmas Gift Baskets that the recipient will love my gift. You can find out other ideas for your Christmas Gift Baskets at Santas Wishes.
