St Martin Island - A Tropical Paradise in the Caribbean

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

The history of the Caribbean is a turbulent one with different nations in dispute over territory. The unusual political situation of St Martin Island involves the French and the Dutch. This tropical, tourist destination is under the rule of France in the north and under the Netherlands in the south. The island is divided approximately in half and both countries agreed this to in 1648.

The early economy was dominated by the French development of sugar plantations in the 18th century, which were worked by slaves. Today, the island is reliant on tourism and the area is sometimes hit by tropical storms.

Myrtle beach spring break

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

Over dinner we brought up the subject of the Myrtle Beach spring break with her father. His first reaction was very similar to mine. Once we started talking about the home repairs that would be done for needy families he began to listen. We asked our daughter if she had any idea of who the parents would be. She told us that she was hoping we would agree to go. Her father is a general contractor and she thought it would be fun. She said that her friends agreed that we would be good chaperones to have along.

After dinner my husband and I discussed this further. He told me he did not like spring breaks as a college student that he did not think he would like one as a chaperone, however he could tell it was important to our daughter. We decided that this would be an interesting trip. We told our daughter that we would all be going on a myrtle Beach spring break.

Lanzarote holidays in the canary islands

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

Resorts on Lanzarote  holidays are targeted at British tourists as they make up the majority of visitors. There are a lot of restaurants serving traditional British food and there are several Irish bars. In fact, local food is in short supply around the tourist spots but it is possible to find cuisine from India, China, Mexico and Greece.

The volcanic terrain can be explored in the Timanfaya National Park, an area landscaped by eruptions between 1730 -1736. Coach tours take visitors around the park to see the steam geyser and volcanic rock. Narration on the tour is in Spanish, English or German. Amongst the sights, is the Montanas del Fuego mountain and there is a bar, restaurant and shop. The Visitor’s Center has exhibits that depict the local history, volcanic activity and the wildlife of the area. The Jameos del Agua complex contains a bar, restaurant, concert hall and swimming pool.

The creation of the hammock stand has made access to hammock relaxation accessible to everyone. Hammock Chairs And Swings

Monday, August 20th, 2007

Hammock chairs and swings have a particular advantage over traditional garden hammocks as they are easier to get in and out of. Still as relaxing as a traditional hammock, they are suitable for those of us who are not as agile as we would like to be but still take pleasure in relaxing in a hammock. Like hammocks, hammock chairs and swings contour the body and can relieve back ache due to the even pressure they place on the spine. For further information go to this Hammocks and Gardens site

Where to find discount camping gear

Friday, August 17th, 2007

Discount camping gear is also available through private parties. There is some used equipment that is worthwhile purchasing, however major things that are needed to be able to run a camp such as the cook stove and tents should be in good working condition and free of leaks. No matter how expensive a tent is it will start to leak after long periods of time exposed to the elements. Tent sealer is something that we have on hand always. I have found that I can camp through most any conditions as long as I am able to stay dry. There is nothing worse than being wet because it is difficult to get warm. I am usually the first peron to volunteer to seal the tent each spring so that we are protected from the rain.

Natural Insect Repellent Sure Beat Putting on Poison.

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

RAID! This is likely the most popular insect repellent/obliterator of all time. The commercials were seriously mainstream when I was growing up. I’m not sure what happened to all the hype, but I will say that the products are effective. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve used Raid bug sprays in my life. Hey, I know what the deal is. Maybe people have reverted back to the old-school natural insect repellent solutions. There are plenty to concoct in your own home. If you’re not familiar with this concept, let me fill you in. Who knows? It just might save you some cash this summer on bug spray.

Back when I was a kid, growing up in rural Northeastern Iowa, there were plenty of bugs and insects to spare. Our house was on a large piece of farmland virtually miles from anything civilized.

I was sitting at my computer in my office working and admiring our backyard when I felt like someone poked me with a pin but no one was behind me. Then a little later another pin point stabbing. After about 5 or 6 times I started looking at the place that got poked and looking really close I could see an insect so small it was almost invisible but it bit like a horse.

This we call No-See-Ems, named by the natives of our country many hundreds of years ago. They are so small they can come right through a normal screen. Natural insect repellent sprayed on the screen worked great to stop their invasion.

Looking for camping trailers for sale

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

This happened to us on our very first interest. We found several camping trailers for sale in the paper but some had already been sold by the time we contacted the owners. I was taken back by how quickly these items were bought. However, when I considered how cheap many of the camping trailers for sale were, the surprise faded.

Camping Hammocks Are a Necessity

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

If you have ever made a list of the things that you absolutely need when you are camping, you probably have thought of things like tents and sleeping bags and cook stoves. However, you might not have thought of camping hammocks as being something to add to that list. Actually, they are much more important than you might think, and they can really make your camping trip go from good to great in an instant.

Many Uses

You might not think of it, but camping hammocks have many uses. First of all, obviously you can sleep in them instead of sleeping in your tent on the ground.

Discount airline tickets are the linchpin of cheap weekend breaks

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

In Michigan in the middle of the winter, there is to simply not that much to do on the weekend. It was quite cold enough to go skiing, but there wasn’t any snow. We could have driven down south for awhile and hung out in South Carolina, but my brake rotor pads were going and I didn’t have time to replace them before we left. Last minute airline tickets were out of the question, or so I thought. There was no way that you could get cheap airline tickets at the last minute!

Arizona travel tips

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

While I knew that the state offers the breathtaking Grand Canyon, I had no idea what other wonders could be explored until I read through the Arizona travel guide. As the document noted, the state is an “amusement park” built of natural wonders and fun activities that are suitable for people of all ages.

I love the idea of seeing a state that takes me to another time and place. The Arizona travel guide offered information about towns that seem to take you back to the days of the Old West. This romantic notion is accompanied by the most up-to-date luxuries that you could only imagine.
