While getting discovered is my primary goal, I’ve read that a lot of budding short story writers and novelists use fiction writing contests as a means of getting in-depth evaluations from qualified critics. That’s because the entry fees for many of these competitions cover extra perks such as feedback, tips, and even workshops. This is the kind of interaction that helps many writers take their work to the next level, and is something that I’m anxious to get for myself.
Of course, for many people, the main reason for entering a fiction writing contest is to win big prizes. Every single competition out there offers publication, either in a magazine, journal, anthology, or on a website, and many offer cash prizes ranging from a few hundred dollars to $10,000 or more, depending on the number of entries. Some of the more prestigious fiction writing contests may even offer a coveted short-term publishing contract as the top prize, which is something that all aspiring writers would love to win.
I’ve got two short stories that I think would be good candidates for a couple of these fiction writing contests. I will probably start out with a few of the smaller competitions just so I can familiarize myself with the whole process. Once I learn a bit more about how these events work, I’ll start entering the bigger competitions. With a little bit of luck, I may even win something!

Here’s the problem. Millions of us trudge off to work everyday with little enthusiasm. Now, why do you suppose this is? I’m going to tell you. We don’t like our current situations. Maybe it’s because we chose a field that hardly interests us. Or, maybe we struggle on a daily basis with certain co-workers of supervisors. Regardless, we don’t feel appreciated, nor do we ever feel secure. That lingering notion dangles in the back of our minds whether we like it or not.

Today I didn’t know what I will do with myself the whale day, i came out in the morning then I arrived at the downtown and entered into a store. I was there approximately 5 minutes, and when I exited there was a policeman that registered parking ticket to a car. I came to him and I said, really, maybe you will alleviate a little to a pensioner? He ignored me and continued to register the report ticket.
I called him you are fascist. He watched on me and started to register an additional ticket for worn tires.
Then I called him you are son of…. He finished the second report and put it under the wiper together with the first ticket. Then he started to write a third ticket.
So this continuous on and on for approximately 20 minutes. The more I cursed him, he registered more reports.
Personally, this is not really bothered me. I always travel by bus. I am just trying to have some fun in my day since I am retired. This is very important in my age

Even though we should know ourselves better than anyone else, we often don’t realize many things about our own personality. Perhaps this is because we spend a lot more time focused on other people than we spent focused on ourselves. Many people like to take a personality profile test to see what it has to say about them. Many times when you take one of these, you will learn things about yourself that you never knew. Other times, you may find that some of the things you feared about yourself are not necessarily as bad as you once thought.

Working abroad was a was a way to put off domestic life for a few years. I was actually in a volunteer abroad program. They gave me a small living stipend, with room and board in exchange for international human rights work. It was a really rewarding program. Until you have seen how the other half live, you can’t possibly understand this world. My work abroad really taught me the startling inequalities that exist, and the need to establish a more just and equitable world.
The weird thing was how addictive the whole experience was. Once you get a taste for working abroad, sometimes it never goes away. When I started my work abroad, I was surprised at how many older people were on the same volunteer program that I was. Literally half of us were over the age of 40, and about 10 people in a program of 60 were over the age of 55. Soon, however, I understood why. There is a thrill in traveling that is beyond anything else in the world.

When I graduated with a degree in astronomy, I thought that the world was my oyster. I believed that it would be no problem to find an astronomy job at one of the top research institutes and do what I had always dreamed of. I think in retrospect that I was just a bit naive. Finding the perfect job in astronomy has been somewhat of a personal odyssey for me.
The real problem is that there is a lot of competition for astronomy jobs. And also, there aren’t that many good jobs. It all depends where you want to go. Most of the astronomy and astrophysics work is done in universities all over the world. The best thing that an astronomer can do is to get a position as a junior professor at a school with a great observatory, or contacts with some government astronomy satellite. That way, he can teach classes and get a gig working on important research. There is nothing like working at a major research institution. Not only are the opportunities for intellectual exploration stupendous in university astronomy jobs, but the pay is pretty good as well. Plus, once you get tenure, you don’t have to worry about losing your job any more.

Whole Life Insurance is insurance that protects you for your whole life, from the day you purchase the policy until you die, as long as you pay the premiums. It is a form of permanent insurance that accumulates cash value and is eligible to receive dividends. It differs from Whole Life in that it features a lower initial premium that remains level for the policy’s first five years. The premium increases in year six and remains at that level for as long as you own the policy.

One massive consideration all parents have is their child’s education. We all want the ideal for our kids, but not all children can go to the top schools. That’s a shame really, as it would seem it would be possible for many schools to have this distinction. Instead, there are some really great ones, and there are some that are failing miserably. I often wonder why we’re so concerned with butting into business in other countries when we need help right here at home when it comes to turning mediocre schools to top schools . Read more…
