When people stay involved with the performing arts, they are more likely to stay out of trouble, stay fit, and they will have motivation and dedication in all that they do. You should never push them if they don’t like it, of course, but those that do should be encouraged when they seem iffy about what they are doing. More …

The itchiness caused due to chicken pox is really intense and irritating. And the crust, if not treated, can leave marks for life. Within forty eight hours of getting infected, the symptoms begin to surface. It is only after ten to twenty days after contamination, that the pox appears. Symptoms include fever, abdominal pain, headache, loss of appetite and finally the pox rash. The condition can be confirmed by testing the pox blisters and by even taking blood test. The medical history of the child can be helpful in determining the severity of the condition. More at KidsHealthIssues.info

I have always been fascinated by the moon and as a child used to view it through a fairly basis telescope which my parents bought me (unexpectedly) one Christmas. Over the years other interests took over along with the pressures of a family taking up my time. What I hadn’t realised what that in the intervening period some great software has come out which if you have an interest in both facts and figures and astronomy, will certainly hold a lot of interest for you. Moon phase predictions software now contains so many items of interest that you may not need your telescope again!

Every man has food and beverage favorites. Some men even like to cook. The traditional food gift basket may seem like an obvious choice, but you don’t need to fill this basket with the usual lineup - sausage, cheese (be careful with fridgeable items!) jams and fruit. What about Indian spices, biscuits or his favourite tea or coffee?
Let’s say your guy does a lot of fishing. A big tackle box makes a macho presentation in this gift basket for men. Men who fish cannot have too many bait jars, lures, line and weights. A visit to the fishing section of any sports store reveals many interesting lures and types of bait. Likewise if he is in to golf - golf balls, chocolate, golf gadgets and accessories would make excellent additions to any gift basket

When I was growing up, I used to always look forward to playing educational games. My favorite ones were the educational board games. I was always pretty good at Scrabble. I was a very literate kid, and sometimes I could even beat the grown ups. At the time, I thought I was hot stuff. In retrospect I understand that they might have been letting me win, but I think I still could have given them a run for their money.
We didn’t have a lot of educational computer games when I was growing up, but we had a few. The Oregon Trail is a classic of my generation. Although current educational games are much more sophisticated, for the time it was pretty good. It really gave you a little bit of an idea of what life was like for the pioneers blazing a trail out west. The gameplay aspect was good enough to make it fun and entertaining

For many of us, ahem, older folk, one of the fondest and most unique memories is of our fathers or grandfathers, grandmothers or mothers taking time out to crank that old ice cream machine: in my case, living with Mom and Dad next door to grandparents, I recall how Pop would get out this bucket (either metal or wooden, I think) with a mechanism that was drawn across the opening and which had a small reservoir suspended from it and into the bucket. At one end of the ice cream “machine” was a hand crank. Pop filled the bucket with ice, inserted the thingy, poured cream and sugar (and coffee) into the center reservoir, and then proceeded to crank by hand for a long time. The drippy mixture would slowly turn into a thicker, sweet soupy mixture, and, eventually, into a creamy, cold treat.

The best way of selecting children toys you want to get for toddlers must be such that it holds the attention of the toddler. The main concern is the color. Children like toys that have lots of reds and yellows in them, closely followed by green and blues. I would personally choose a toy that has a combination of different colors. Experience proves that toddlers do not care for the shape of the toy as much as they care for the color. As long as the children toys look appealing to the eye, toddlers will like to hold them and play with them, and will keep returning to the toys quite often. When it comes to getting children toys for very small kids, the primary concern is of course the safety of the toy. The children toys manufacturers themselves are quite alive to this requirement. When selecting children toys for children, there is a clear indication mention the age above which toy is suitable for children.

One massive consideration all parents have is their child’s education. We all want the ideal for our kids, but not all children can go to the top schools. That’s a shame really, as it would seem it would be possible for many schools to have this distinction. Instead, there are some really great ones, and there are some that are failing miserably. I often wonder why we’re so concerned with butting into business in other countries when we need help right here at home when it comes to turning mediocre schools to top schools . Read more…

An article excerpt about Home Schooling
One of the things that come up on the con side of the pros & cons of home schooling debate is that children don’t have as much exposure to other children when they are home schooled. This is something that you as a parent will have to work on because you can make your child just as socialized as you would like them to be even if they are home schooled. If you don’t want this to be part of your pros & cons of home schooling debate.

If you want less candy in your kids Easter baskets, you can make your own like I did, or look for ones that have different things in them. You can get a lot of great springtime items to put in the basket. As long as they find at least some candy in their baskets they are going to be fine with the rest being missing. If they don’t know, they certainly aren’t going to complain. If you think about what is coming with springtime, you can come up with some great ideas to make your own kids Easter baskets.
Last year, I filled up a huge basket for my daughter. I put in a chocolate bunny for her because I think no basket is complete without one. I also got her some jelly beans, but that was all of the candy that I added. I also got some sidewalk chalk, a kite, bubbles, and some sidewalk paint. We then added some flip flops and some sunglasses, along with a blow up toy for the summer time. She was pleased with what she got, and she got great use out of each of the items. If you want to make kids Easter baskets with less candy, you can use the same items. They are guaranteed to be hits.

Though seeing a fire truck racing down the road with it’s lights on and horn blaring is never a good omen, children cannot help but be fascinated. Even when my daughter hears the sirens she immediately announces that there is a fire truck on the way. She already knows from experience that when you see one behind you coming swiftly down the road that you should pull over to let them pass. Perhaps the idea of a fire truck is something that will always caught the imagination of a child, and maybe that has something to do with the fact that they know if something goes wrong, there are people out there who will come to the rescue. It would be fun to be one of those truck drivers.

Allergies can be quite bothersome. They take on an entirely new level of irritation when they involve food and food by products. Many times, parents do not know what foods their child has developed allergies to until they have been exposed to those foods. Unfortunately, by the time they find out, their child has already suffered a troubling reaction. The ingredients in a food can also cause allergic reactions if they contain by products of the food allergen. This can be frightening to parents who do not know how to handle the symptoms of an allergic reaction.
Children can not be protected around the clock from harmful foods. There is always the possibility that they will eat something that contains a product that they are allergic to. That is why it is of vital importance for you and your child’s teachers to always have quick and easy access to their allergy medication. Whether it is epinephrine or anything else that helps to counteract the reaction, quick access and knowledge about how to administer the medication are key factors for your child’s well-being. It is also a good idea to get immediate medical attention, just for precaution if nothing else. Although some food allergies cause problems for a lifetime, many of them can be outgrown.
If you are concerned that your child may have a food allergy, it is crucial to have them screened through the use of an allergy skin test. This will eliminate any doubt in your mind about whether or not there is allergy present. Once diagnosed, inform all caretakers, family, and friends about the allergy, and teach your child to ask what is in the foods that they are offered. The best way to deal with food allergies in children is to completely avoid the foods that cause the reaction.

A lot of people talk about the dangers of the Internet for children, but too few people talk about the benefits. Kids nowadays are much more international than children have ever been before. They might have friends in a dozen different countries and think nothing of it. This spirit will no doubt have great effects on the future. People will start seeing how interdependent we all are, and this will eventually lead to a better world with less conflict. Nevertheless, knowing the good doesn’t mean we should forget about the bad. The Internet can be a dangerous place for children, and as a parent it is important for you to make sure they are safe.
There are free chat rooms for kids all over the net, but not all of them will be appropriate for your kids. You see, people use online chat rooms for all sorts of purposes. There are a lot of adults, for example, who use them for online dating. You really don’t want your kids exposed to some of the adult conversations that go on in these rooms. That means that you have to ensure that your free chat room for kids is monitored and set up for children only.

Children who are depressed will find difficulty to concentrate on their schoolwork or other responsibilities. Your child may loose sleep, or begin to sleep too much. Their appetite will either increase or decrease dramatically. The same occurs in their level of activity.
The most important thing as a parent can do to help your child battle depression is to be aware of the risk their child faces and knowledgeable about the symptoms they might see in their children. Children who are depressed will have persistent feelings of sadness or be constantly irritable. They will often express or exhibit a low self-image.
Depressed children often exhibit physical symptoms, such as a persistent stomachache or headache that seems to have no trigger. Other changes in the child’s normal routine or behavior can be signs of depression. While the depression may be triggered by an obvious event, such as the death of a relative or sudden move, if the symptoms persist for an extended period of time, it becomes dangerous.
If your child shows signs of depression, the best thing to do is to call a professional immediately. This professional can either be your family doctor or even a school counselor. If these people do not have experience working with depressed children, then they can recommend another professional who does have experience. Medications and aggressive therapy may be suggested treatments for your depressed child, but it will be worth it in the long run. Getting involved in your child’s life is the best thing a parent can do in order to contribute to a happy childhood.

This is not to say that all aspects of the environment should not be examined. No parent would wish to ignore a factor that may indicate a serious situation requiring attention. On the other hand, we don’t want to magnify a purely natural condition out of proportion. Doing so without reason can only serve to put a misplaced and negative emphasis on a child’s natural personality.
Introverted children are aspected by several personality characteristics. They may be uncomfortable in the limelight, they may prefer to watch rather than show or simply delight in being in the background. There may be nothing unhealthy in these desires and so we should not attribute a negative diagnosis to this little wallflower.
Psychological studies have shown that introverted children are often geniuses, gathering information about the world around them before expressing themselves to others, including their parents and siblings. Many famous artists were introverted children, just waiting and watching for their time to bloom.
