Cake Decorating Techniques

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

I have just attended a nightclass in cake decoration and until I went I had no idea how many cake decorating techniques there were. I always thought that decorating a cake was a pretty simple affair. When I was growing up, my mother loved to make cakes. She showed me a couple of simple designs that you can use on a cake, and I copied her designs faithfully. I can make flowers, swirls, little ice cream cones, and of course all the letters in the alphabet. I was not the most artistic cake decorator, but I knew enough to make a pretty professional looking cake.

Christmas Gift Baskets are Perfect for the Holiday

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

In my family, Christmas Gift Baskets Are a Tradition. You see, when I was growing up we didn’t have a lot of money. We did, however, have a lot of relatives. That meant a lot of Christmas gifts to send out each year.

Finding the right Christmas gifts on a limited budget can be expensive. Forget about buying all the cousins toy soldiers like they wanted. Forget about buying aunt Berta the new sweater that you were meaning to get her.

The only thing we could really put together on a limited budget was Christmas gift baskets.

If there is one thing you can say for my family, it is that we always did the best with what we had. Every Christmas Gift Basket was a Work of Art. We would, of course, include small bits of gourmet food. My grandmother loved to make preserves, and this was always one of the central ingredients of every Christmas gift basket.

We would include pieces of cheese from my father’s pasture, and a little but of sausage if we could afford it. Besides that, of course, there were candies for the children. They were all wrapped in brightly colored paper and tinsel, perfect for the holidays.

Get Your Prayer Answered

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

Get Your Prayer Answered. We often pray the ALMIGHTY for happiness and success and ridding our selves from the misery and troubles. But only a few experience that their prayer was answered. The rest think why the ALMIGHTY has not answered their prayer. They feel that they got nothing in return for the prayer. But realize friends, it is not the fault of the ALMIGHTY. It is your fault. HE WILL LISTEN ONLY IF YOU SURRENDER TOTALLY AND PRAY.

Vintage Christmas Decoration

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

I’m definitely a big fan of vintage Christmas decoration. I love the classicism of old designs, and my home is a testament to this fact. I have iron forged chandeliers hanging from the ceilings, hand blown glass vases, and mission style furniture in all of my rooms. I believe that good design is timeless and should not change with fashion. That is why I am such a huge collector of vintage Christmas decoration.

Try an Australian Christmas Decoration theme

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

As an Australian I am naturally biased towards a Christmas theme of Australian Christmas decorations. For those that are not familiar with an Australian Christmas decorations theme let me explain. In Australia at Christmas it is hot everywhere. Unlike in Europe and in the United States where you enjoy Christmas in front of a fire with snow and hot dinners we enjoy Christmas by the beach or outdoors. Our Christmas decorations reflect the type of country that we live in. So instead of Santa being all rugged up in Australia Santa puts on some board shorts and goes for a surf! Australian Christmas decorations also reflect the deep love of Australians for our native animals and wildlife. We like to dangle our decorations shaped like koalas and kangaroos from the tree and wrap our presents with a spray of wattle. You can easily copy an Australian Christmas theme and imagine that you are on the beach this Christmas and throwing some shrimps on the barbie. This season make your own Christmas gift baskets

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

If you are sick of being stuck in the mall all night looking for a perfect gift for someone you care about give it a miss instead this year. Why not try something different this Christmas and give people you care about a Christmas gift basket that you have taken the time to personalise for them. There are so many things that you can put in a Christmas gift basket that you are only limited by your imagination. I love to have a “theme” for my Christmas Gift baskets that is personal to the person that will be receiving my gift. For example; if I am giving a basket to someone who loves to cook I might make my basket “theme” baking. In my Christmas gift basket I will put great things that bakers love like my favourite recipes, tips and tricks, cute cookie cutters and decorations for biscuits and cakes. I know by spending the extra time developing a “theme” for my Christmas Gift Baskets that the recipient will love my gift. You can find out other ideas for your Christmas Gift Baskets at Santas Wishes.

Corporate Holiday Gift Ideas

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

Picking out just the right corporate Christmas gift idea can be a pretty difficult task. After all, what you get for your employees says a lot about what kind of boss you are. When I was coming up in the world of business, people tended to get very formal office Christmas gifts. The boss would buy senior members expensive wine, junior executives slightly less expensive wine, and everyone else Christmas ornaments, or other presents that reflected their low status in the company hierarchy.

Nowadays, that approach is not nearly that popular. In the modern workplace, after all, we are supposed to pretend that we are all equals - members of the same team, as it were. Although no one exactly believes this, it makes relationships between management and the workers easier and less strained. As such, the best approach is to have a corporate Christmas gift idea that is appropriate for everyone. You can privately get something nice for some of your senior partners, but it should be done in as inconspicuous a manner as possible. Publicly showing favoritism only invites trouble, particularly when you can already indicate which employees you favor through Christmas bonuses.

One of my personal favorite corporate Christmas gift ideas is to send everyone home with a bottle of Bristol Cream sherry. It is one of the most delightful wines you can have in the winter, and it is relatively inexpensive. If your office is facing hard times, however, you might want to consider going cheapter. If you can have your company print out personalized custom Christmas gifts, you can get away with a very cheap holiday present. Last year, for example, we gave everyone a candy basket. There were peanut butter cups, mints, and little chocolate Santas inside. The Christmas wrapping paper was printed with the company logo, and every single one had a personalized greeting card attached. It cost less than three dollars per basket, and it still seemed to make most of our employees feel appreciated.

Of course, you can always go with one of the old standbys. An ornament is probably the most classic corporate Christmas gift idea there is. It is pretty, inexpensive, and useful year after year. You can get a pewter Christmas tree ornament, a glass bauble, a miniature nutcracker, or whatever else might strike your fancy. Any of these will make a fine corporate Christmas gift idea without breaking the company bank!
