Wondering what to buy our four adult children this Christmas, we hit upon, what we thought was a great idea.
All four of our kids (two girls and two boys) have now left home, but one thing they all have in common, is that whenever they come to stay with us from time to time, which they all do, they each arrive with their laptops in tow.
The two boys tend to come and see us when they want a quiet night, and invariably arrive unannounced and make out like they were ‘just passing’. They both have fairly good jobs, one in law, the other in marketing, and they both love to come to see mum and get pampered. So, instead of going home to their wives and children, they visit us and get spoilt by mum, having a relaxing night. Without fail they never step inside the house without their laptops.
The girls, for whatever reason have each ended up as self employed Internet entrepreneurs after giving up great jobs in accountancy and journalism. Polly has a thriving business selling handmade bespoke invitations, whilst Stella is what’s called an affiliate marketer, whatever that is. Both of them are quite successful, and needless to say we are quite proud of them, just as we are the boys. But I have to admit, I have a soft spot for my girls and spoil them whenever I can.
Each of the children always appear to be struggling with their computers and the bags in which they carry them always seem as though they are not big enough; a bit like my wife’s purse or handbag. Are they ever big enough?
We are constantly being requested to upgrade our connection to the Internet because it will be best for us they tell my wife and I, but of course, we now know the real reason.
One son in particular, travels extensively around the world, and whenever we sit and have a chat, he never fails to make his feelings known about check-in procedures at the airports he uses. Evidently, he is always requested to remove his laptop from his bag so that it can be passed through the scanning machines used to scrutinize the contents of both the bag and the computer. An absolute must of course.
His ranting is what got us to thinking of how we could help him with this issue. So, we went online, did a little research and came across the perfect bag for him. It has been designed to overcome the problems that so many travelers complain about. The bag is in two halves that zip together. One half contains just the laptop, the other half contains all the other ‘junky bits’ as I refer to them.
Now, all he will have to do is unzip the two halves and present each of them separately. No more will he have to remove the whole of the contents of his bag and then struggle to repack it under the glaze of fellow travellers and airport personnel.
Our younger son, the lawyer, needs a more conservative kind of bag, by virtue of the profession in which he operates and so we decided on a fantastic leather bag designed by Kenneth Cole for him. I must say, I am going to be a little hesitant to part with it come Christmas day.
For each of the girls we thought something unusual would be more appropriate for them. For Polly we went for something bold, just like her character, and we think she will be delighted with the pink tote bag she will have delivered by Santa.
Stella’s bag is also bold and made in a Geisher theme. It is big enough to hold everything she carries with her, including the baby’s pampers. We are sure the girls will be delighted with their really funk laptop bags.
The real benefit of choosing laptop bags for gifts was that we bought all of them online, it was easy and we found some great bargains without stepping out of the house.
