Pomeranian dogs are tiny and fluffy, but they weren’t always this small, in fact these dogs, developed in Prussia, were once much larger weighing 30 pounds. By the late 1800’s Queen Victoria had become a Pomeranian fancier and due to this the breed was very popular in England. Their popularity has held and today they are a favorite in the show ring as well as a loving pet.
If you are considering adopting one of these wonderful dogs, you should consider a Pomeranian Rescue where you will find great dogs looking for a new home.
Some health problems common to this breed include skin problems, heart problems, slipped stifle and dislocated patella as well as eye infections. They are also prone to early tooth loss and problems with their gums so a good dental program including daily brushing and yearly vet visits is important to keep your Pom in the best of health.
Pomeranian dogs are known for their fluffy double coat which should be brushed every day. To brush your Pom, start at the head and brush forward, parting the coat as you go. Take care to crush the cotton like undercoat as well as the long silky outer coat. It is important that the Pomeranians eyes and ears are cleaned on a regular basis.

This can help prevent arthritis and even lessen the effects for dog’s already suffering from the disease. In fact, glucosamine has proven to be so beneficial that many of the high-quality dog foods now add it as an ingredient.

Dog Rescue Groups
My mom has always said that everyone needs a cause. In the case of my girlfriend, it is animal rescue groups. I had never even really thought about dog rescue groups until we got involved together. I knew that animals were sometimes put down because there was no one to adopt them, but I didn’t realize how common of a problem it is. Dog rescue groups are there to draw attention to the plight of unwanted and abused dogs. Some of the things that I’ve learned from getting involved in one have been quite disturbing.
Still, there are some uplifting aspects of animal rescue groups as well. First of all, you get to make life better for dogs and other critters. A lot of people don’t think about the plight of pets in this country, but it can be pretty serious. A lot of dogs out there are simply not taken care of. People get them because they think they will be entertaining only to abandon them when they realize how much work it is to raise a dog. Other times, people treat them as objects, feeling free to abuse them as a way to get out aggression or anger. In dog rescue groups, you take these dogs off of the streets and out of abusive homes and, hopefully, put them into a safe and supportive environment. Although the dogs cannot thank you, you know they would if they could.

Though you canine friend may not always enjoy wearing it, dog collars are one of the most important pet accessories to have for them. Of course you’ll need a collar to attach a leash to for walking your dog. You can also put your name, phone number, and other important information on a dog’s collar. This is the easiest way to find missing dogs since the people who find will just have to look at their collars.

Although it is easier to train a puppy, dog potty training techniques are applicable for dogs of all ages. Whether you want to potty train a dog or puppy, it is important you learn how to potty train a dog properly.
It takes time to potty train a dog and you need patience. It’s important to know a dog will never pee anywhere to piss you off. Don’t be tempted to punish your dog unnecessary. Clean up all the places your dog has gone to pee and make sure to get rid of all the smells as dogs tend to go to the same spot to pee the next time.
Bring your dog to the same spot in the garden to pee or poo each day. After a week or two, the dog will know where it should go to pee or poo. If you can’t keep an eye on your dog, then use crate instead. Dog crate training is another way to train your dog. Click here for more tips on how to potty train a dog.

Home dog obedience training entails using positive reinforcement training. A dog’s natural instinct is to please his/her owner. Positive reinforcement allows your dog to learn what it is you want your dog to do.
Here are some tips when implementing home dog obedience training.
Pick a good reward. You need to engage your dog’s interest. Sometimes a pat on the head or saying good boy or good girl is good enough. Other times, you may need to use dog snacks and treats to reinforce your dog obedience training.
Timing is also important. When your dog displays good behavior, you need to reward him/her immediately so your dog knows it is a right thing to do.

Even if your dogs are normally well-behaved, sometimes they will still act up a bit. Some of the likely ways for them to misbehave is to bark excessively or chew up furniture. If your dog makes a lot of noise, a barking control dog collar may be needed. To prevent them from chewing up your belongings you need to have some dog chew toys for them.

Obedience training for dogs is one of the those things you should start when your dog is young. As they grow older, it will become progressively harder to obedience train your dog.
One key point to remember when obedience training your dog is effective communications. It is necessary at the beginning to instruct your dog both visually and through your voice to obey your commands.
Nearly all dog behavior problems stems from normal canine activities if obedience training for dogs is not used. Barking excessively, pee at the carpet and biting other people are actually normal canine activites. Without proper training, they will behave like wild animals.
Obedience training for dogs is also an easy way to establish social hierarchy. When the dog obeys your commands, it is showing you respect and compliance.

Other obvious signs that dog health is not what it should be would be fluids coming from areas where it shouldn’t. Some dogs drool, and that is something that you learn about though the early days of owning your pet.
However, some dogs do not drool that much, and if they begin to do so out of no where, there could be problems with dog health. This also goes for any new discharge that comes from the nose or the eyes. These things require attention if they go on for more than a day or two.

Potty training your puppy is important when they are young. Once they get beyond 1 year old, it is going to be much more difficult to teach your puppy potty training.
Here are some tips on how to potty train a puppy.
Teach a specific word at a time. Keep repeating that word or phrase. By doing so, it will become a command to your dog.
Mark the place where your puppy pee. Do you notice that your puppy will often go the same spot to pee. The reason is because they recognize the smell and it tells them to go back there. That means, if your puppy has pee on a spot such as a carpet, make sure to remove the odor completely. Otherwise, your puppy will pee on that spot again.

I had never given much taught into what was involved when it comes to boarding dogs. When I was a kid I didn’t have a dog, but I had always wanted one. I was envious of all the other children who had dogs, and I would head over and pet their pets whenever I could. My parents, however, hated animals. They did not like having to put up with the mess, if you get my meaning, and also they didn’t trust… read: Boarding Dogs - What Goes On Behind Closed Doors?

It’s very important that you take dog health seriously.
