When thinking about backyard games, you should always think about who will be coming. There are some backyard games that are good for families, some are best only for adults, and there are some that children will love more than anyone else.
For a child’s birthday party in the yard, you obviously want a backyard game that is geared towards young ones and their sense of exploration. Think about things like scavenger hunts and related games when coming up with something just for them.

And although I have had trouble with critters before, one thing I had never thought that I would ever have to do is figure out how to get rid of squirrels. Squirrel pest control is not on the radar of most people. When I was a child, the squirrels were some of my favorite critters. I would feed them peanut butter off of a spoon and watch them nervously darting from tree to tree as they chased each other about. I absolutely adored squirrels, Chipmunks, and other similar creatures. They were cute and in my eyes, they could do no wrong.
That was before I grew up and realized all the damages that squirrels can cause. It started off innocently enough. They would try to raid the bird feeder, coveting the same seeds that the birds enjoy themselves. That was easy to deal with with a squirrel proof bird feeder, but that wasn’t the last of their shenanigans. When they invaded my attic, I knew that I needed to get rid of squirrels. I didn’t notice it for a long time, But one day it finally dawned on me. I heard scurrying in the walls, and to my horror, I found out that there were holes that had been made by the squirrels in the side of my house. This created a draft, increased the chance of mold contamination, and greatly compromised the weatherproofing that I had so carefully done….

Adding a heated bird bath can be a great way to dress up your garden and can also attract a wide variety of birds. Not only will you attract greater numbers of birds but you’ll also attract a greater variety of species. While a bird feeder will attract specific bird species, depending on the food provided, a bird bath attracts many bird species.
You should purchase heated bird baths that no deeper than three inches. Commercially-made bird baths are often deeper than they should be. There’s no need to buy a new bird bath if the one you have is too deep, because you can fix the problem by adding stones in the bottom of the bird bath.
If you want the best bird bath in town, then consider adding a fountain. Birds flock towards the sound of falling or dripping water. Since birds can slip on smooth surfaces, it’s best to have a bird bath with a non-slip bottom to ensure their safety.

Garden pests are those little annoying things that bug our garden (and us), but unfortunately need to be put up with. Although no garden pests trouble and annoy, they are very much a part of our ecosystem, and need to be viewed as such. After all, your garden is also a part of the greater ecosystem, and logically, it should conform to its environment, and not the other way around.
But what makes a garden pest, a pest? When does an organism cross the line into pesthood? It’s interesting to read this full article on what makes a garden pest, a pest.

Adding a heated bird bath is an easy way to bring more birds into your garden. Bird baths attract different types of birds in greater numbers. A bird bath will attract just about every species of bird, while a bird feeder only attracts the type of bird that eats the food provided.
Three inches should be the maximum depth of an ideal bird bath. A bird bath you purchase in a store may be too deep. Stones placed in the bottom of your bird bath can help make it shallower if you find it’s too deep. Giving birds a bird bath with a non-slip coating on the bottom will help them use your bird bath safely.
You can do even more to attract birds in your garden by adding fountain to your bird bath. The sound of falling or dripping water is a great way to attract birds. Either way, your birds are sure to love you for providing them with fresh water all year round. In fact, a heated bird bath can help more of your wild birds to survive a harsh winter since open water is necessary for their survival!

Large wind chimes provide a restful ambiance to any garden. Wind chimes alert their listeners to changes in wind speed and direction in a delightful way. The uses of wind chimes date back to antiquity. Fine carving and intricate decoration can be found on many wind chimes which have been used throughout the ages to adorn religious buildings and homes.
Originally conceived to help forecast weather, large wind chimes are now used more for enjoyment of both their look and sound. They can be made from metal, wood, glass, copper, bamboo or any type of material that will produce a melodic chime when clinked together. Within a given area you might find more than one set, because the different tones in the chimes are made of different materials.
The melodic tones of the wind chime can help you to relax and aid in meditation. Depending on the types of wind chimes you have, the resonance and vibrations can effectively work to calm and soothe your mind. Unwanted external noise which can leave you feeling tired and nervous can be blocked out by playing more positive sounds.

You don’t have to be a gourmet chef to enjoy what an indoor herb garden can offer. You probably already use many types of herbs in your foods, but you probably get them from a bottle. Though these work, nothing works as well or tastes as good as herbs straight from an outdoor or indoor herb garden. Fresh is always best, and this is no exception. You have to allow them to dry and know how to store them before use, but you will find your food never tasted as good as it does when you use fresh herbs.

If you have a gardener on your gift list, you might want to get them gardening tools this holiday. Though you may think it an odd gift to give for the holidays, you will find that they will love that you thought to get them something they might need. A gardener is always in need of new stuff, and there are always new things on the market that they may enjoy getting as a gift on any special occasion.
Gardening tools can range in price from a few dollars to a few thousand dollars. Since you probably aren’t going to buy something for a few thousand dollars, you might want to stick to the lower end of the totem pole. Those lower priced gardening tools are the ones they need to replace the most often, however, an example of some of the most popular gardening tools might be a watering hose. Though you may think they must surely have a hose already, do you know if they have one that they like? Are they having problems with it? Do you know that there are new kinds of hoses on the market? There are, and these gardening tools seem to be improving as they years go by. You can get flat hoses, and even accessories that make using and storing a hose much easier. Some help with storing the hose by rolling it up, and there are also guides that stop a hose from running over the flowers and veggies as you pull it through the garden. You can easily build a homemade hydroponics flood and drain system with just a few materials that you may already have around the house or that you can buy cheaply at any hardware store.
- A pair of large buckets, about five gallons each
- A couple yards of flexible half inch tubing
- Clean gravel
- Mesh plastic screen, like window screen
- Grow medium of your choice
- A platform for the apparatus to stand on
The small effort it takes to build a hydroponics garden is well worth the rewards you’ll gather. Hydroponics gardens grow faster than soil gardens, the plants produce a larger crop yield and you can grow plants all year long.

These might be species you may have never heard about previously, such as quince, or olives, or figs.
Bonsai artists know that many trees can be trained for growing bonsai, it is just that they are not frequently grown by the majority of people. If you are willing to experiment, you probably will get away with growing anything as long as you start it young.

Control flowering annuals diseases-It is also important to look for signs of disease or insect infestation every time you work in the garden. For instance, as you are pulling weeds, look at the plants. Are the stems intact, or are they showing signs of cracks or other damage? Is the foliage leafy, green and free of holes and spots? Catching problems early is the best way to cure them.
When watering annuals, it is best to avoid overhead watering if you can. That is because splashing a lot of water on the foliage of plants can encourage a variety of diseases. Most plant diseases love moisture, and standing water on plants is a great way for existing diseases to spread throughout the garden, or for a new infection to take hold.
A combination of drip irrigation and soaker hoses is usually the best choice for watering the garden. These methods allow for greater control over the amount of water each plant receives, and they generally allow for deeper, more thorough, watering as well. more on annual flower diseases

People love it use plants to decorate their houses. Plants give a home a feeling of life and they also add a splash of color if it is a flowering plant. The only problem with real plants is that they need constant and regular care. You have to make sure they get enough water or moisture to make them grow effectively. Real plants also need regular exposure to sunlight for them to make food for themselves through the process of photosynthesis. Some plants may also need trimming or cutting or pruning to maintain their shape and form.
