History Of Outsourcing Jobs To India

Monday, June 30th, 2008

These Indian teams, once trained, returned to India to continue work on a telecommute basis. Outsourcing jobs to India had begun. Due to the lower cost of living in India, American corporations were able to pay much less to Indian workers than to their American counterparts, thus saving hundreds of millions of dollars.
The corporate planners projected that outsourcing jobs to India would save at least 20% on labor, an enticing figure indeed.
Outsourcing jobs to India became the way to go, with most IT corporations in the U.S. following suit. By 2001, American programmers were virtually unemployable, undercut by the cheaper Indian labor. This produced what amounted to a depression for the American IT industry worker.

Questions during an interview

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

How much you can expect to make is another question that you may want to ask during a job interview, you but you need to be tricky about it. Some employers expect their interview subjects to ask about pay, but others will see that as a downside, as you may only be concerned with picking up a paycheck not becoming a team member. If the supervisor handling your job interview does not state the average salary for the position that you are applying for you may want to ask. However, remember to use the phrase “average salary,” as it tends to sound more professional than pay, money, or even paycheck. This is also the time in which you may want to ask about other employee benefits, including health insurance or vacations.

Decorating With Plant Stands

Monday, May 26th, 2008

Decorating with plant stands is a great way to add unique appeal to that corner or entry area. They are an ideal way to display extra items when you’ve run out of room on your mantle or shelving is to use a well-made pedestal plant stand.

The appeal of either a living or an artificial plant is enhanced by putting it on an attractive plant stand. You can enjoy all the advantages of green plants without taking the time to care for a living thing if you use artificial plants. To add charm and character along with the support needed for your artificial plant, you should invest in a plant stand.

There are some rules to consider when buying a plant stand, whether the item you plan to showcase atop your stand is a plant or a framed family picture. The stand should enhance whatever you are putting on it. Your plants are of course the center of attention, but with the wide variety in plant stands today, your guests will be awed by both the plants and the pedestals they are resting upon.

Choose a spot where the floor is solid and level so that the plant can easily remain upright. Heavier plants need a stand that is supportive as well as appropriate for your flooring. Very plush carpet may not be right for a pedestal that is lightweight. However, if you have a hardwood floor, this base will be perfect.

The Addiction Of Working Abroad

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

Working abroad was a was a way to put off domestic life for a few years. I was actually in a volunteer abroad program. They gave me a small living stipend, with room and board in exchange for international human rights work. It was a really rewarding program. Until you have seen how the other half live, you can’t possibly understand this world. My work abroad really taught me the startling inequalities that exist, and the need to establish a more just and equitable world.

The weird thing was how addictive the whole experience was. Once you get a taste for working abroad, sometimes it never goes away. When I started my work abroad, I was surprised at how many older people were on the same volunteer program that I was. Literally half of us were over the age of 40, and about 10 people in a program of 60 were over the age of 55. Soon, however, I understood why. There is a thrill in traveling that is beyond anything else in the world.

Finding Astronomy Jobs Is Hard Work

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

When I graduated with a degree in astronomy, I thought that the world was my oyster. I believed that it would be no problem to find an astronomy job at one of the top research institutes and do what I had always dreamed of. I think in retrospect that I was just a bit naive. Finding the perfect job in astronomy has been somewhat of a personal odyssey for me.

The real problem is that there is a lot of competition for astronomy jobs. And also, there aren’t that many good jobs. It all depends where you want to go. Most of the astronomy and astrophysics work is done in universities all over the world. The best thing that an astronomer can do is to get a position as a junior professor at a school with a great observatory, or contacts with some government astronomy satellite. That way, he can teach classes and get a gig working on important research. There is nothing like working at a major research institution. Not only are the opportunities for intellectual exploration stupendous in university astronomy jobs, but the pay is pretty good as well. Plus, once you get tenure, you don’t have to worry about losing your job any more.

Summer Jobs For Teens

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Summer can be a long and often boring time in the life of a teenager. By the time a young person is fourteen-years-old they can start considering the idea of taking on a summer job. There are plenty of different jobs for teens available in many different sectors.

By far the most popular way for a teenage girl to make money is by babysitting. Years ago it was more than acceptable for a family with two or more children to give a young lady two or three dollars an hour, use of the telephone and a kitchen full of food in exchange for high quality child care.
