Why Is It Important To Choose An Accredited Home School Program?

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

Whether you are looking to enroll your school age child in a home school program or looking to get a college degree at home, it is essential that you enroll in an accredited home school program.

If you plan to invest the time and effort it takes to educate your child from home, go that extra step by choosing to affiliate yourself only with an accredited home school program.

When a home school is accredited, you know that they must meet minimum standards or they would lose their accreditation. The group that accredits them reviews them on a regular basis letting you know that you can trust them in supplementing your child’s education.

If you are looking to take college classes at home, it is even more important to make sure the school you choose is accredited by an accreditation company that is recognized by all the major colleges. You can search at one place here for resources on home schools and home school programs.

Webwatcher Review

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

With one click in WebWatcher ’s Instant Message / Chat tab, you’ll see the date, start time, end time, participants, and entire contents of chats and instant message conversations. This is an important feature because use of Instant Messages for day-to-day communication is increasing. Unlike e-mail, Instant Messages are seldom saved, and even if they are, they’re only stored on the computer where they’re easily deleted. WebWatcher keeps an entirely separate hidden recording of all IMs ensuring that you are able to read every conversation, regardless of whether the person you are monitoring deletes them or not.

Spector Pro 6 Software Review

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

Spector Pro includes what many consider to be the BEST key logger available, saving keystrokes by application, by date and time. With Spector Pro, you will know what was typed, where and when it was typed, and you will also know WHO typed it because Spector Pro keeps a record of who is logged into the computer. Spector Pro will save every key typed on the PC keyboard. Spector Pro not only captures standard alphanumeric keystrokes, but also records “hidden” characters and keystroke combinations, such as the Shift and Ctrl key, as well as “true” keystrokes which may otherwise appear differently on screen (such as an * when a password is typed). Keystroke recordings are organized chronologically by Application and by Window allowing you to easily differentiate between what is typed in a word processing document, email, spreadsheet, or Internet browser (even passwords). If you are concerned about your child providing phone numbers and addresses to strangers online, then use Spector Pro’s search function to locate keystrokes typed and jump to recorded screen images in Screen Snapshots.

Do You Want to be a Nanny?

Monday, October 29th, 2007

Are you considering becoming a nanny or au pair as a career or temporary job? Before you book your first job find out what important steps you should take to protect and prepare yourself for this rewarding, yet demanding, position.

What are My Responsibilities?

Although child care is your first responsibility you will most likely be requested to take on other day-to-day chores and assignments. Each family will have their own requirements so make sure you are aware of their expectations.

Aside from entertaining and feeding the children you may be required to tutor children, take them to play dates or other activities, cook, clean the house, bathe and put the children to bed.

If you are a live-in nanny or au pair the family may require you to care for the children even when the parents are home. You may be depended on to care for the children when the parents work late or when they go out for an evening.

Since the responsibilities differ vastly depending on the family it is very important to have a clear contract that lays out what your responsibilities are and what will be expected of you. If you feel you are being asked to do more than is reasonable you need to discuss this before accepting the position.

Will I Live-In or Live Out?

This situation will also depend on the family and your own preference. Are you working for someone locally or are you hoping to move to another area or country?

Another consideration is travel. How will you get to the home and will you be responsible for providing for the transportation needs of the children? If you do not have a license will public transportation be provided for?

If you are considering an out-of-country position it is very important to prepare for the cost of living elsewhere if the position you seek does not work out.

What Do I Need to Do to Become a Nanny?

If you work for an agency you will have to accommodate their requirements for hire. Some of the typical requirements are: driver’s license, references, First Aid or CPR, criminal check, and experience. Other agencies may even require Childcare Education, no smoking or specified language abilities.

Whether you work through an agency or make private arrangements you should meet the family before committing to the position. Set out a clear contract and be sure to take your responsibilities seriously.

Unique Baby Names

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

I think that the key is to find a baby name unique enough to help the child stand out and seem special, but not strange enough that other kids make fun of him. Some unique baby names are truly atrocious. I think that there are some parents who have a very sadistic sense of humor, and give their children unique baby names that they know they will hate. It is a way of having power over the children, and the kid can’t do anything about it until he or she turns 18.

Upsides and Downsides of Breast Feeding Babies

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

In the end, it’s hard to beat breast feeding babies. Once you introduce them to this process, they’ll likely prefer it over the bottle. At least this has been my experience with three little ones. There’s a definite comfort they acquire from their mother caressing and nurturing them. The only downside to this old-school method of breast feeding babies is the lack of sleep mothers have to grapple with for nearly a year. So, if it doesn’t sound like a routine for you, but you still wish to feed your child your milk, I recommend a quality breast pump. This way you can prepare the bottles each day and split the feeding ritual with the father.

Toys for Christmas

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

That year for Christmas when I opened my present I found that I did receive a doll. It was the same size as a Barbie doll; however it was a Vivian doll. This was the cheaper off brand version. The Barbie doll clothes fit the doll. The difference was that the Vivian doll did not have the same feet so the high heeled Barbie doll shoes did not fit. Also the face looked different. I was very disappointed with the doll. I did not think that the couple of dollars that mom saved was worth it. I do not remember any other toys for Christmas from that year.

What Motivates Youth’s to join Gangs Race?

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

According to an article by Lawrence Rosenthal (2000), he claims that one theory on gangs race could have to do with race and racial discrimination or hate crimes due to race. Youths of mixed ethnic background catch heat from all sides, but in a gang environment they are welcomed and looked at as equal to any other gang member. It is the unity and group equality that draws them into the trap. Once in, they aren’t able to find an easy exit out; that is if they want one. Another theory is that it gives them a sense of power and dominance, where before they might have been considered weak minded, as well as physically weak. They are incited by the control they believe they have in their life and over others so they choose to become more intertwined with gang life by making their gang membership more prominent.

How To Choose New Born Baby Names

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

What my husband and I did before our baby boy was born was to take a look at hundreds of new born baby names before finally making a decision. I must admit that sometimes it’s not easy to decide, especially since father and mother may not have the same taste in new born baby names. You can keep a notebook available so it’s simple to write down the names you want to keep in consideration. Another option is to select your own heritage. Let’s say you come from a Scottish background. Then you will be able to go on the Internet and find a huge number of Scottish names both for bous and for girls. It’s amazing how many names you can find online. Get further advice for expectant mothers.

Exercise For Children

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

How much exercise do you suppose your child receives on a daily basis? What is his/her routine after school and during the summer months? You see, herein lies the dilemma. If you allow your children to lounge about indoors all the time, they are likely to become overweight. This is something you don’t want! Imagine how fast that weight can add up.

Teen Relationship Problems Help

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

I am a younger teacher – only 26 – so teens see me as practically a peer even though I am 10 years older. I try to lend my ear and give the best teen relationship advice that I can, but it can be pretty tricky. After all, as an authority figure and a teacher, I am in a very difficult position.  Fortunately, most of the teens are aware of the position I am in when I am asked for teen relationship advice.

Top Schools

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

It is nice to be able to send your kid to one of the top schools, but you can really do pretty well without. We assumed that, even without a top school, our kids would all turn out okay. After all, we had made sure that they knew the importance of a good education. They loved to read and write, and were extremely intelligent kids. Even if they did not have one of the top schools, they still had some of the top parents. What could go wrong?

How To Improve Your Parenting Skills

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

If you really feel scared, you can buy many books that give you insight into parenting skills that you may feel you are missing. These books are great for reference, and you can always confer with your pediatrician if you just aren’t sure which way to go. Parenting skills are even something that can be forgotten between children, and that is just because we often doubt ourselves. Though you may think the second child will be easier, you may feel the same sense of panic you felt when you brought your first child home. The fear may go away a lot sooner though, and you will fall into old knowledge quickly enough.

Sunday School Lessons

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

I remember many of the Sunday School lessons I had as a child. Most of them were very generic and they had a great message. However, I do know some places are very radical, and I wonder if it is smart to expose children at ages 3 and 4 to the teachings of someone like that. There are many great churches, and I have no problems with them, but there are some that are just so off the wall you wonder if they have ever read the Bible at all. To me, these Sunday School lessons are akin to brain washing.

Finding imaginative and creative child toys

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

An article about toys for children

Ask any mother, and she will tell you the joys of parenthood: Watching them grow, learn through play, and observing developmental milestones are some of the rewards of parenthood. These milestones don’t just happen. They are carefully cultivated and developed. For children, learning through play ensures that fundamental cognitive skills take effect. Infants have the classic child toys like mobiles, rattles, and stuffed animals. Toddlers have slightly more sophisticated toys that focus on logical reasoning. Kindergarten-age child toys are geared toward nurturing the imaginative and creative side of the child. As the child grows, he’ll pass through all of these developmental stages, so its best to have age appropriate child toys on hand that will grow with him.
