Original Compositions For Music Contests

Friday, July 11th, 2008

Music composition contests are a little bit more stressful, but they are also more potentially rewarding than plain old musical lyrics contests. In a music composition contests, you either have to send in a demo or give a live recording of your song. Obviously, if you don’t have a lot of experience as a performer, the demo is a little bit easier. Even if you haven’t performed a lot, however, you should still consider live music contests. After all, the only way to get better at performing live is to practice. In a live music competition, you get ample opportunities to strut your stuff before a tough audience.

An Introduction To Logic

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

The book, A Concise Introduction to Logic is a well written text that offers a user-friendly approach to rational concepts that do not always come naturally to many people. The book is easy to understand considering the subject matter. The author makes complex ideas relatively simple to understand.
This is no simple task but somehow, Hurley manages to break down complex concepts into learnable steps. It’s as if the author was able to make the human nervous system seem as simple as two cans connected by a string. A Concise Introduction to Logic is a magnificent piece of work that is accessible to most readers.

Drawing A Water Cycle Diagram

Monday, June 16th, 2008

When looking at a water cycle diagram, I usually start with the mountains, work my way down to the oceans, and head up to the clouds. Mountains, after all, are one of the most important steps in the water cycle diagram, and one of the ones most affected by global warming. You see, mountain glaciers are usually reservoirs of water. In the winter, increased snowfall adds to their supply. In the summer, melting causes a seasonal flood. In my water cycle diagrams, I am sure to note how this can be changed by excessive global warming. When all the water on top of the mountains has melted, there will be no seasonal flood, which will cause widespread drought.

How To Achieve Goals

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

Learning how to achieve goals is perhaps one of the most challenging and difficult tasks to do in life. If you can master the art of achieving your goals consistently, there is really nothing you can’t achieve.

There are many systems you can use to achieve your goals. The question is of course which one works for you. Some people need hand holding in order to achieve their goals. They need a mentor, friend or companion who can talk to them.

Others need a lot of structure and set strict guidelines to organize every area of their life. Some people do better with gadgets like a PDA or personal diary or even self hypnosis devices etc.

Some people need someone to remind or even to shout and reprimand them in order to remind them of their goals. Regardless of which method you choose, your mindset is the most important thing of all.

Garden Planning And Miniature Fruit Trees

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

The fruit is more abundant every other year, but they did have apples the second year they planted the miniature fruit trees. To the north side of the deck they have created a small rock garden with perennials that do well in the shade. These lush green plants are a nice contrast to the color of the annuals in the pots on the deck. On the small south side area they have created a fire ring surrounded by two benches and two chairs. The over all effect is a welcoming space with plenty of seating. By breaking up the yard into zones they have utilized all the space they have, without making the space look cluttered. It gives the home a great deal of curb appeal…

Why Use A Cat Collar ?

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

As a cat owner of three, I can honestly say that my wife and I prefer collars on our cats. We keep tags on ours mainly for recognition purposes. Even though our pets stay indoors, you never know when they’ll attempt a quick slip out the front door, which happens all too often. The name and contact info are on the collar, just in case. If nothing else, this certainly offers the owner, piece of mind. A website that sells such collars is Gotags.com. Here you can find personalized cat collars of various styles and colors, which offer the cat’s name and phone number. In my opinion, this is essential when owning a pet. After all, while we enjoy playing with our pets, it is also necessary to protect them and keep them safe.

We all know someone who cannot control his or her drinking, but sometimes after repeated attempts to stop, the alcoholic is successful and can control the urge to drink. The following represents some of the classic alcoholic behaviors in the first stage of alcoholism. According to various reliable sources, the person’s drinking is no longer social because it has become a means to escape work-related stress, relationship issues, inhibitions, and life’s problems in general. What is An Operating System or “OS” - A plain English explanation

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

What is an operating system? In this article I’m going to help you finally make sense of what for most people is one of the most confusing and least understood computer terms around: “operating system”, or “OS”.

This is actually a pretty easy idea to get when it’s explained right.

Now what is an operating system, or OS? First off, it’s is a type of software. To recap my explanation from my last newsletter article:

“Software” is all of the parts of the computer that you can’t really see or touch. Software would include things like Microsoft Word, your email program, Windows or the Mac OS, plus all of your personal files like letters, photos, music, and more.

One way to think about it is like this: hardware is like your brain, the physical part of your body, while software is like your mind or your thoughts — the non-physical part of yourself.

Software runs on hardware, just like your thoughts “run on” your brain…

Play movies on Apple computer - tips for how to play movies on Macs.

I got a question where someone asked me how to “play movies on Apple computer”. [sic] The answer to this depends on what you mean by playing movies.

The reason I’m mentioning this is because the person who asked just said they wanted to know “how to play movies on Apple computer” and didn’t mention if they meant a DVD movie, a movie they’d downloaded off the Internet, or a video file (or movie) on a web page. Depending on which they meant, the answer is a little different…

This site has lots of good info for Apple Mac computers, plus a very easy way to learn to use Mac computers in plain English.

Policy And Procedures

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

It was very frustrating to me that the people that set up the policy and procedures that needed to be followed were those that were the most removed from face to face contact with the clients. Many of our programs would be cut because the congress or senate decided that the money needed to be moved to a different part of the budget. There would be times where there would be pots of over a million dollars available, but there was not way to access twenty-five bucks for a kid to go to camp.

Backyard Fountain

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

You can opt for a very modest little water feature that helps you create a tranquil setting or you can choose a formidable structure designed to wow visitors. Of course, your backyard fountain should reflect your personal tastes as well as your personality. The backyard fountain should also be appropriate for your space. I chose a corner style backyard fountain for my small outdoor area. This design is ideal for smaller spaces but it also has a very pronounced presence.

Stainless Steel Rings

Saturday, January 5th, 2008

When it comes to stainless steel, you probably already know a little about it. It is tough stuff, and it will not tarnish your finger, nor will it rub off like the silver overlay that my husband had on his last ring. If you look up stainless steel rings, you will find that they are reasonably priced, and they have a unique look.

Plastic Storage Boxes

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

When thinking about storage options, there are quite a few things out there. Though many don’t like the look of plastic storage boxes, there are a few reasons to get them. They are not the best for keeping clothing fresh when stored away, but sometimes, it can actually be the best option. When thinking about storing important papers, they should also be one of the first considerations as well. Just about anything will be safer in this type of container.

Plastic Bin

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

My parents were both organization freaks, and neither of them would ever shy away from using modern, disposable goods. On the contrary, plastic storage bins were the rule, and plastic silverware was used at least once a week. Everything was stacked in the stackable plastic bin, dishes, clothes, toys, the list went on and on. They realize that the clear plastic box was one of the greatest inventions of all time, and I can’t help but agree with that conclusion.

Various Parquet Floor

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

Parquet floors differ from hardwoods in the way they look and the way they are put down. These are often done in a specific geometrical type of design and the work is done with shorter slats of wood, or can be done with many shapes. The most common shape for parquet floor might be the square, but you can find great looking floors done with almost anything you can imagine.

Installing Laminate Flooring

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

What you have to know about installing laminate flooring is that you have to be good with numbers. If you measure wrong, you are going to mess it all up. If that won’t be a problem for you, this is one project that you can probably do rather well. Some flooring comes in rolls, and that means math skills are a must when installing laminate flooring.

Garage Door Openers

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

Garage door openers are definitely something I did not think about before I had a kid, but now that I have one, they have become important. Unfortunately, I did not think about my garage door opener until my child was hurt. Nowadays, I have a lift master garage, but I had some rickety old model before. It was not safe, and it did not work properly. I was always fighting with it.

Potato Salad

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

What picnic is complete without someone bringing potato salad? The answer is, the picnic isn’t complete without the world famous side dish. Everyone always claims that their potato salad recipe is the very best in existence. The ironic fact is that almost every single potato salad recipe has the exact same ingredients. I mean, you can’t make potato salad without the basic ingredients.

Party Food

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

Parties should be relaxing affairs, not endurance tests for making guests feel uncomfortable. Party food should be user friendly. Most people have a story to tell about attempting to cut through food on a paper plate, precariously placed on their lap. Finger food is the answer and it’s cheap and easy to organise.

Organic Baby Food

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

Parents have become increasingly concerned about the quality of food they buy for their children. Many have pursued the organic path and it’s never too early to start. Organic baby food is much in demand and nutritionists agree that the early months and years of diet play a significant role in the well being of children.

Offices To Lease

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

That usually means the people that are in our wage bracket are the first to go. I have toyed around for years about starting my own free lance company. As rumors increased about major cuts happening in my company we decided we should start looking at offices to lease for me to set up shop.

Colors and chakras

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

Color is all around us. This world we live in would not be quite the same without color. And yet we oftentimes take color for granted. But do you know that color plays a very essential part in life itself? Color affects us in profound ways, which cannot be really understood.

There are in fact, 7 colors in a ray of light. But we cannot perceive them unless they are broken up by an optical prism. For instance, light shining through raindrops can show up as a rainbow, and it is then we will see all the colors of light in all their glory. Each individual color has its own vibrational rate, the slowest being red, and the fastest being violet.

For each color, there is also a specific healing effect. Color affects the subconscious mind in many ways, and there is also another aspect to it - color plays a vital role in the functioning of the chakras.

What are chakras? These are believed to be spinning energy wheels located on the energy counterpart of the physical body. It is mainly an Eastern belief, with small variations between Chinese or Indian systems. However, all agree that the body has a life force which cannot be seen, and the chakras are something like intersections from which the energy lines intersect. Hubs, if you may call them that, and each chakra relates to a certain optical color.

So, do you now believe that color is an indistinguishable part of life?
