Good Luck With Your Federal Tax Refund

Monday, November 17th, 2008

One little nasty surprise that a lot of people get when they read the IRS tax booklets is when they see that common sense has nothing to do with the IRS. The tax booklets are written in such a way that it would take a lawyer or an accountant just to read them. The language is hard to understand which makes it difficult to reach the end of the booklet with even a basic understanding of what’s going on. The process is very frustrating; to find out how much you made all you should have to do is add up all of your pay stubs. It seems like you should be able to just plug this figure into a chart and instantly find out how much you have to pay or how much you will get back on your Federal tax refund. The only trouble is, it’s not so easy. The IRS has added a lot of worksheets, multipliers and other confusing instructions. Pretty soon you realize that the whole process is taking up a lot more time than you planned on.

Federal Tax Preparation

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

It’s tax time again, so I wrote an article about tax preparaion. A snippet from that article is below:

Every year, when it comes time for spring, there is something that you must do. No, it’s not spring cleaning, although you should be doing that anyway. No, you need to do your federal tax preparation. This is something that all working Americans need to do. Even if you aren’t working, it is a good idea to fill out a tax return so that the government doesn’t get suspicious. After all, they use a lot of the information that they get from your federal tax preparation forms in order to keep tabs on people and to make sure that they aren’t breaking the law.

Although this sounds weird, it is definitely understandable. They are already getting your tax information so as to pay of the national debt and handle the taxes of goods. It would make sense that they would use that valuable information for other purposes as well. Even if you don’t like what they do with the information that you put in your federal tax preparation forms, you still have to fill them out. That is the duty that you are instructed with and that every American has to do. There are some people who don’t want to fill out tax forms, and they end up getting in trouble for it. Some people even get sent to jail and have to pay hefty fines. It is better to do your taxes every year, and do them right, then have to go through something like that.

Tax Help: Tax Deductions When Traveling

Stay At The Hilton But Eat At Mc Donald’s

That’s the best way to get the most out of your tax deductions when you are traveling on business. The fact is that your travel accommodations, such as your hotel room, are 100 percent tax deductible when they are fully business related. Therefore, take full advantage of this by staying at the best hotel you can. Even the cost of your travel, such as the car ride or the airfare is also 100 percent deductible. Fly first class or drive in a luxury car.

But, only 50 percent of the cost of your meals on the road is deductible. That’s where you may want to stick to the lower end if you are on a budget.

Each of these costs does require that you have accurate records kept. When you are traveling, take into consideration what costs you have including things like your dry cleaning, your tipping expenses and the tolls you pay. It all adds up!

Consider your property tax when you purchase a home

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

Many people don’t consider property tax when they decide they can afford to buy their own home. They may think they can get a mortgage that is equivalent to what they pay in rent. That might very well be true, but you can not forget about property tax when you are deciding if you can afford the mortgage or not. There are many hidden things that come with home ownership, and that is just one. You are also going to have to make your own repairs, and you are going to buy your own appliances. These are things most landlords take care of when you rent from them. When you buy a house, those things fall on you.
