Getting Acting Jobs

I have wanted to be an actor since I was very little. Being a successful actor with lots of acting jobs has been basically a lifelong dream. I don’t know how I decided that I wanted to act in movies in the first place – I just knew. I would go to the movies with my parents as a little kid, and whenever something exciting happened I would say “I want to do that”. At first, my parents thought that I meant that to watch more movies, then they realized what I meant. They understood that I wanted to be a successful actor.

Unfortunately, I never looked into how to go about pursuing an acting career. If I had, I might have been discouraged. You see, getting a degree from acting school is only the very start of it. Although you are technically qualified to act in movies, no one will hire you straight out of college. You see, everyone wants to be an actor. For the first several years after you graduate from acting school, you have to get used to the idea that Hollywood is crowded with people much more qualified than you are to act in movies.

In my case, it was about three years before a break. Up until that point, I was doing pretty menial jobs. I would help set up the sets, run errands, arrange meetings – that kind of thing. I almost despaired and decided to call it quits. Three years of work, and I was no are closer to an acting job. Then things started to turn around for me.

I learned the most important thing of all — that is to network. Producers hire people they know, so my job was simply was to network with those that did the hiring. School is great by as an actor, you must network and have people know you, then eventually you start getting acting jobs.
