Weight lifting is more like body building rather than toning up. It is usually accomplished through lifting fewer repetitions of heavier weights to totally fatigue the muscle. For kids who have not yet reached their teens, this can be harmful to their bodies. It can damage the cartilage (growth plates) at the end of the their bones.
